Congrats. You’ve fallen into their trap. The Ancient Ones need to be appeased in a very specific way, otherwise they get angry and destroy the planet.
In reality, people expect a horror movie to unfold in a very specific way, and they get angry when it doesn’t.
In this case the movie didn’t unfold to your specific tastes. You liked the set up more than the ending because it fits your preconceived notions of what a horror/slasher film is (I mean no disrespect with this statement). The ending is really out there and strange, and for some people they don’t quite catch the self-referential nature of the plot. All they see is a fucking weird ending to an okay teen slasher flick. Actually, it was never a slasher OR horror film in the first place. It’s a deconstruction of the tired tropes used in the genre.
