It’s clever, but it’s really bizarre to me that so many posters and covers (and the awful second film) use sexual imagery to sell *Lolita*. It’s a story about a narcissistic unreliable narrator who ruins a child’s life by turning her into a sexual object. That isn’t even me reading against the grain, Nabokov makes it super obvious that identifying with Humbert Humbert is fucked up.
This poster, by using a lollipop and a girl’s crotch to sell the movie (regardless of if Kubrick signed off on it) is basically saying what a bunch of people who read the book only on a surface level say: It’s a story about sexual temptation from the forbidden fruit of youth. That’s a dumb reading.
