Well, the effects and visuals and everything are incredible, probably the best since Avatar. It also creates a sense of hopelessness, loneliness, and even claustrophobia in space very well. But the script left something to be desired. The characters aren’t all that unique, they’re pretty bland and stereotypical actually: You’ve got your charming southern cowboy (Clooney) and you’re tech expert caught in a dangerous, scary, unfamiliar situation (Sigourney Weaver I MEAN Sandra Bullock) and that’s it. The plot is a lot like Toy Story 3 in the sense that everything that can go wrong does go wrong, which is pretty lazy IMO, and the events do start to feel repetitive after awhile. It starts off strong and it does have it’s moments, but overall the plot is lacking. I’d recommend it for the stunning visuals and the effective atmosphere if you’re into those things, but if you’re looking for a good story driven by fascinating characters, and interesting themes, I’d suggest Prisoners.
